Section 3 The Person and Work of Jesus Christ
The Church believes:
a. that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, and was conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men.
John 1:1-2 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God."
John 1:14 "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
John 1:18 "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."
(Luke 1:34,35)
a. that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our complete redemption through His death on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice, an redemption from the dead.
Romans 3:24-25 "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"
Romans 5:8-10 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."
(I Peter 2:24' Ephesians 1:7).
b. That the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of god the Father where, as our High Priest, He fulfils the ministry of Representative, Intercessor and Advocate.
Acts 1:9-11 "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."
Romans 8:34 "Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."
(I Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 1:3; 6:19,20; 7:24; I John 2:1,2).
