CHRIST
So far we have looked at ourselves and what the Bible has to say about our spiritual and moral condition. We have seen that the Bible says we are all sinners, seperated from God, who cannot save themselves.
Then we saw that while God is merciful and does not want to condemn us, He is also just and must deal with our sin. Sin must be punished.
Christ …
Who He Is
The Infinite God – Man
John 1:1, 14
1 “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
14 “ And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
The uniqueness of the Lord Jesus Christ is taught in the above verses from John chapter one. In verse one He is named the ‘Word’ Who (verse 14) was born into our world. Who not only was with God in the beginning of creation but was God. The teaching of the Trinity is not something our minds can grasp. One God made of three Persons, Who are one Person. The second Person of the Trinity is the One written about as the Word, Who being God became a man and lived in the world, not putting off His deity, but in many ways restricting Himself to human limitations.
Therefore the Lord Jesus Christ was not just another good man, but God born into the world He made.
What He Did
The Lord Jesus died on the cross for our sins to reconcile us to God.
1 Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”

Romans 5:8-10
8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
18 “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
As we have already seen, every man is separated from God by sin. Man is declared ‘dead in trespasses and sin’, dead in the sense of being separated from God. We have no form of relationship or communication with Him whatsoever, except the message of the Bible, that we are all sinners who come short of the glory of God.
When the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, He did so to bring us to God (1 Pet. 3:18), or reconcile us to God (Rom. 5:8-10; 2Cor. 5:18-19). That reconciliation has to do with restoring us to a life with God both now and in this life, and in Heaven to come.
