The World-wide Flood
At the time of the flood the world’s population had swelled to at least 1 billion people. The Lord saw the that the people of the world’s actions and even their thoughts were evil continually.
Genesis 6:5-8
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
What made man wicked? By what judgment was man’s thoughts and heart judged wicked? Democratically among the people, people’s actions would have been found acceptable. By individual’s own judgments their ‘wicked’ actions and thoughts would have been found normal, and therefore acceptable. Genesis 6 is God’s view of the people of the world’s actions and thoughts.
They were created to be like the Lord (His image Genesis 1:26) and to acknowledge His Lordship over them. Only one family group were found to be righteous, like the Lord, and that was Noah’s family. (Genesis 6:8) The Lord used that one family group, and animals saved with Noah’s family on the ark to repopulate the world. The Lord started over. The first ‘population’ failed. They had so turned from the Lord’s way, from Truth, that the Lord decided to start over with the one family group that were still ‘like Him’ before they were lost as well.
