Doing All To The Glory Of God
1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Pro 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
From the above scriptures it is abundantly clear that it has always been the privilege of the child of God to do all things in a manner that glorifies God. It is also true that the Lord knows that His children would always need a way of repenting from sin. They would never, in this life, escape from ever sinning. This said they are to always strive to glorify the Lord in all they do. Our flesh’s appetite for sin is no excuse for any sin to become habitual and permanent in our lives.
Hudson Taylor, in his booklet “China’s Spiritual Need And Claims”, wrote the following on page one of the booklet:
"IT IS a solemn and most momentous truth that our every act in this present life—and our every omission too— his a direct and important bearing both on our own future welfare, and on that of others. And as believers, it behoves us to do whatsoever we do in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
As with the lost, believers tend to view what they are doing as either for or against their own advantage. Where the believer being led of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14) will be led to do all things to the glory of God. Which will be in line with the ancient command to acknowledge the Lord in all our ways (Proverbs 3:6).
Hudson Taylor’s statement above declares the solemn responsibility of the believer in how important a role we play in the affairs of God in the lives of others. When I am sinful before others I will be presenting an evil testimony of what a child of God is. i.e. I will be a misleading witness. Also, my testimony and behaviour will either assist or hinder my being able to influence others for good. Doing “whatsoever we do in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” is to make sure that what I am doing will glorify Him, will please Him, is done in love for Him.
